My self-made iPad

My self-made iPad (doesn't do a lot)

Welcome to my new blog. It’s about my 10th. The chances of its long-term survival are bleak I’m afraid. The good news is that you’re reading the very first post so my enthusiasm and itch-to-write is currently completely disguising the time-investment required to keep on posting! I’m also, once again, under the utter disbelief that this time will be different. I guess we’ll see…

My main reason for firing up WordPress this time is to rant on about iPhones and iPads. I can’t stop talking about either of them lately so I’m hoping to channel some of that obsessive ear-bashing away from my wife and work colleagues towards here instead.

I’m currently waiting to get my excited, smudge-spreading fingers on an iPad. The Australian release date can’t be more than 3 weeks away and I’m poised to hit the pre-order button the moment it goes online. It’s been tough watching and reading about all them lucky folk in the US who have them already but the staggered release has been a mixed blessing.

For starters, I’d much prefer to buy a 3g+gps model over the wifi-only one and in Australia, they’re both coming out on the same day. If I’d had to chose between a day-one wifi-only model and waiting a full month for the 3g+gps, like the Americans did, I’m not sure I’d have been able to wait.

Then there are all the reviews of apps and peripherals that I’ve been able to read beforehand. Those will guide my initial spending spree towards the good stuff.

Who am I kidding though? I want one now! It’s not fair!

Anyway, count that as a brief intro of things to come. I’m sure I’ll have much more to say on the iPad over the next few weeks. Longer-term (if I make it), I won’t just be posting about iThings. I’m actually just as much as PC man in practice; much more so when it comes to the desktop. Plus my brand loyalties are rather weak… I frequently gravitate towards whatever is new and awesome. In a few months time this blog could easily look like a Windows Phone 7 app!

I doubt this will stop you talking about iphones and ipads at work at all!

No, you’re right, it probably won’t. In fact, I’ll be talking even more about them when you line up that big mobile project for me! :)
